Copyright is a protection of someone’s intellectual property. Fair Use is a part of the 1976 Copyright Act and allows someone to copy materials for nonprofit educational use only as long as it is reasonable. As a teacher, it is important to understand both of these terms when getting materials for the classroom. I would make sure I am allowed to use and reasonably distribute the materials that I need. I would explain these concepts to my students so they understand the importance of not stealing someone else’s work and teach them how to create their own work. While implementing technology in the classroom can have some great benefits, there are also some issues that consequently come along with it. Two pressing ones are academic dishonesty and cyberbullying. To deal with academic dishonesty, I would make sure there is a plagiarism checker on each assignment submission so I can see if students did the work themselves or not.
