Journal #1 - Introduction
Hi everyone! So nice to (virtually) meet all of you! My name is Savannah and I am from a small town called Crystal River, Florida. You may have heard of us because we are known for swimming with the manatees in the winter and scalloping in the summer! I am a senior here at Florida State University double majoring in Political Science and History with a minor in Education and will be attending law school in the fall. When I am not doing schoolwork, I love to go on runs or walks around campus, play with my dogs, or just watch some Netflix at home.
In regards to using technology in an educational setting, I would say that I have had a fair amount of experience with it. In elementary school, a few of my classes used smart boards which gave me my first taste of technology in education. Then, in middle school, every student was given an iPad in which much of the work was to be completed on. These iPads carried over to high school and I used it more for online readings and to look up information easily. Additionally in high school, I took a computer competency course my freshman year in which I was certified in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, allowing me to hone my skills in these different platforms.
As it is for everyone, my Personal Learning Network (PLN) is uniquely me. I use social media sites to network with people who share similar interests as me and to learn more about topics in different manners through a combination of resources. These sites include LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram. Additionally, I also have a network of people I can turn to. These include members of my sorority, including my advisors, people I have interned with in the past, and my peers at school who are studying the same subjects as me. These online and offline connections allow me to build a PLN that fits my interests and helps me grow as a student and person!
Hi Savannah! I find your experience with iPads in school very interesting, as that is not an experience I had. I also love how you talked about how different sites offer different resources for you.
