The grade level I chose from the Standards and Technology Matrices for ELA is grade 6. The standard is LAFS.6.W.2.6 which states that students should “use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others; demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a minimum of three pages in a single sitting.” In other words, this standard requires that students should have a solid base of understanding in how to use technology when writing a paper and be able to work with others in this if needed. I feel that I would be able to efficiently implement this standard into my classroom based on my skill set because these are things I have done throughout the course of my schooling. I believe that I have enough knowledge on this standard to teach it to students.

In the CPALMS Educator Toolkit, I chose to look at Social Studies for grades 9-12. The resource I chose from this section was titled “Uncle Tom's Cabin: Reception & Significance” and included a video from Khan Academy discussing the reception and cultural significance surrounding Harriet Beecher Stowe's book Uncle Tom's Cabin. When learning about the Civil War, there are many different factors that played a role in causing the start of it. This book is considered to be one of those causes. I would use this resource in my classroom because it would help explain to students the relevance that this book had on one of the deadliest wars our country had and how a book played a role in that.

It is important to be a proficient Internet searcher as a teacher because you may need to find a certain piece of information quickly to include in your lesson and you do not always have time to browse a ton of different sites. Being proficient allows you to find what you need in a timely manner while still staying on track. The Internet searching skill that I will be using mist when moving forward is the one that puts a minus in front of certain words to limit those search results. Often when I am trying to find information, irrelevant stuff of the same word pops up and makes searching more difficult. This new tip will allow me to filter out irrelevant information and find what I need more efficiently.
