Blog Journal #5
I actually started using Twitter in 2015 as a personal account! I originally made it as a way to interact with my friends in a more informal setting and follow accounts for different artists and bands that I liked. I have continued using Twitter for those same reasons, but now I also follow accounts that are related to FSU or the legal field, which is what I plan on going into. I have found Twitter to be beneficial in finding out information quickly, but you still have to do more research on it to check the bias and learn more. Twitter can be useful for my future career as a lawyer because I can use it to network with other lawyers on the platform and follow hashtags related to the specific field I want to go into to stay on top of information.
The digital divide is a big issue that faces many students in schools. Though it affects those in rural communities greatly, it can also affect those in urban areas that lack easy access to technology and Internet access. The students who have a lack of access to technology may not know how to use it as well in the future as a student who grew up constantly using it and may be afraid to ask for help. Some of the main causes of the digital divide would be geography, as well as socioeconomic status, and the two often go hand-in-hand with each other. As a teacher, you should be conscious of the fact that not all students are going to have the same access to technology and if you give an assignment that requires technology, you should try to provide it in the classroom so the student does not have to worry about trying to complete it when they go home if the lack access to those resources.
As technology has become increasingly popular, it has also become a staple in the classrooms with academic software playing a big role in student learning. Two software tools that I would like to implement into my future classroom would be Google Classroom and Zoom. I used Google Classroom in middle school and high school and I feel like it is very accessible for students of those ages. It allows students to be updated on new assignments or teacher announcements through real-time notifications. It also connects with Google Drive and all the apps associated with it. I would also use Zoom because I feel like it is so integrated in our society now and it will continue to be that way. It is such a helpful resource to use for class when students are sick, but still allows them to be a part of the classroom and lesson for that day.
I think badges show that someone has earned a specific accomplishment. But I feel like badges are not always universally the same. For example, I earned badges on one soccer team I played on but a different team I played for did not give out badges. It is important to recognize that while badges can be a good incentive for motivation, they will not mean the same thing for everyone.
